“Golforama: The Innovative Scoring System Revolutionizing Golf in Southern Africa
In 1963, CNA acquired the patent for Golforama, a cutting-edge scoring system exclusively designed for Nomads. This groundbreaking technology has been instrumental in facilitating real-time scoring at prestigious golf tournaments across Southern Africa, including events sanctioned by the South African Golf Association, Sunshine Tour, and European Tour.
The Golforama system relies on the dedication and expertise of Nomads volunteers, who generously give their time to operate state-of-the-art electronic equipment supplied by the Sunshine Tour organizers. At each of the 18 holes, scores are recorded and transmitted to a central control point, where Nomads members diligently work to disseminate the information to the main scoreboard and various scoreboards throughout the course. This ensures that spectators receive live updates, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game.
But that’s not all – our volunteers also provide vital support as roving reporters, tracking the top 10 groups and gathering statistics and scores for television broadcasts. This not only enhances the viewer experience but also contributes to the growth of golf as a spectator sport.
While Nomads volunteers selflessly give their time to ensure the success of Golforama, our efforts are rewarded with compensation from the Sunshine Tour. These funds are then invested in projects that promote the development of golf, such as the recent establishment of a development academy at Benoni Lake Golf Club. Our National Executive was proud to grant R184,000.00 to support this initiative, which will have a lasting impact on the golf community in the province. As a testament to the project’s success, Benoni Lake Golf Club has secured a 40-year lease, replacing their previous month-to-month agreement.
Golforama is a shining example of Nomads’ commitment to innovation, community service, and the advancement of golf. Our dedication to this pioneering scoring system has not only enhanced the game but also opened doors for future generations of golfers.”
