LOWVELD NOMADS’ HONORARY MEMBERS

Every club has and needs long serving committee members that are prepared and have gone beyond the normal call of duty to serve their clubs. Lowveld is no exception. We have been blessed with some of these that have served us all, selflessly.

Andrew Bullen

Andrew is a Founder Member of Lowveld, inducted on 16 November 1996 along with his father and Founding Captain, Gerald Bullen. Due to his working career, Andrew was also a member of Free State and Eastern Nomads clubs. As at end February 2023, he has played 192 monthly games.
Andrew served as Captain of Lowveld in 2010 and continued with committee duties as Equipment Officer following his Captaincy. Andrew served as Tournament Co-ordinator during the 2017 Jock Nationals, which was played at Mbombela Golf Club in March 2017.
More notably, Andrew served as the South African National Chairman during 2018/19 following his Junior- and Vice Chairmanship years.
“Bully” attended 11 National Tournaments, and 6 International Tournaments, with regular participation in the Quadrangular, LES and Glenbrynth Challenges between Nomad Clubs.
Andrew was awarded Honorary Member status on 13h October 2019.

Rob Douglass

Rob is a Founder Member of Lowveld, inducted on 16 November 1996. As at end February 2023, he has played 296 monthly games.
He is our Match Secretary and has served since 2012 with distinction.
Rob served was Captain of Lowveld in 2012. He has extensively served on Andrew Mentis, Anniversary and 2017 National Tournament committees, as well as performed many Golforama duties.
“Long-socks” played a leading role with getting the Nomads national scoring system, Samson, operational with the National Executive Committee. He attended 14 National Tournaments, and 2 International Tournaments, and was the captain when Lowveld launched Swaziland Nomads Club.
Rob is always around to greet you with a sincere look and a firm handshake.
Rob was awarded Honorary Member status on 5th December 2021.

Derrick Short

Derrick is a Founder Member of Lowveld, inducted on 16 November 1996. As at end February 2023, he has played 289 monthly games.
Derrick served as Captain of Lowveld in 2011. He was Treasurer of the club from 1998 to 2001 and has also served on Andrew Mentis Anniversary and National Tournament committees.
He is currently our Club Secretary and has performed this task since 2012 with distinction, as evidenced by National Executive feedback.
“Shorty” attended 11 National Tournaments, and 3 International Tournaments, with regular participation in the Quadrangular, LES and Glenbrynth Challenges between Nomad Clubs.
Derrick can be relied upon to keep a meeting in order and to always arrange a “roadie” at the pub on the way out.
Derrick was awarded Honorary Member status on 5th December 2021.

Brandon Stainthorpe

Brandon was inducted on 6 May 2007. As at end February 2023, he has played 184 monthly games with a 99% attendance record.
“Beef” was the coordinator of our 25th Anniversary celebrations, manages the Golforama portfolio and coordination at the annual Alfred Dunhill Tournament at Leopard Creek.
Brandon served as Captain of Lowveld in 2013/14 for a period of 18-months and coordinated the 2019 Glenbrynth Challenge at Highland Gate, consisting of 20 players each from 5 Nomad Clubs. He has served on Andrew Mentis, Anniversary and National Tournament committees for many years.
Brandon attended 16 National Tournaments, and 6 Botswana and 7 Eswatini International Tournaments, with regular participation in the Quadrangular, LES and Glenbrynth Challenges between Nomad Clubs.
“Beefy” can always be counted on to volunteer his assistance to anything Nomads and to complain incessantly about the bets he must pay.
Brandon was awarded Honorary Member status on 5th December 2021.

Brian Hogg

Brian is a Founder Member of Lowveld, inducted on 16 November 1996. As at end February 2023, he has played 300 monthly games with a 96.5% attendance record.
Brian served as Captain of Lowveld in 2014/15 and has spent more than 10-years on Committee, excluding the Captaincy period. His portfolio’s included Treasurer, Handicapper and Membership Ambassador, while currently coordinating all Furtherance of Golf (FOG) and Junior Golf activities.
“Hoggy” attended 14 National Tournaments, and 7 International Tournaments, with regular participation in the Quadrangular, LES and Glenbrynth Challenges between Nomad Clubs.
Brian has extensively served on Andrew Mentis Anniversary and 2017 National Tournament committees as well as many Golforama duties, whilst playing a leading role “behind the scenes”, by Chairing the Succession Committee and serving on various others.
Brian was awarded Honorary Member status on 19th February 2023, whilst playing his 300th monthly game.
